STQ: Stories in the Quran
One of the most profound aspects of the Quran is the manner in which it narrates stories. These stories of past and future events serve primarily as guidance but unknown to many Muslims is that these stories also indicate the miraculous nature of the Quran (I'jaz Al-Quran ). This course will delve into the finer points of Classical Arabic grammar and will explain why the eloquence of the Qur’an is unprecedented and unmatched.The subjects covered in the course will be related predominately to rhetoric and a basic understanding of Arabic will be highly recommended.
The course is based on a number of classical Arabic Grammar and Balagha texts including: Mughnee Al-labeeb, Sharh Ibn Aqeel, Al Itqan fi ‘ulum al Qur’an by Imam Al Suyooti, Idaah fil 'uloom Al Balgha by Al Qazweeni, Sharh Al mukhtasir A'la Talkhees Al miftaah by Al Taftazani, Tafseer Fath AL qadeer by Imam Showkani, Al Bahrul Muheet by Abu Hayyan, Tafseer Abu Saud, Al Tafseer al Kabeer by Sheikh Fakhar al deen Al Razi, Fathil Qadeer by Sheikh Muhammad Al Shawkani, , Kitaab Sibawayh, Lisan Al arab by Ibn Manthoor as well as the contemporary works of Ibn Ashoor and Dr Fadl Salih Alsamaraie.
Students can enrol in this course where they will have access to the course material and be able to download it for future reference. The student will also have access to online teachers as well as extra lessons when they become available.

One will need to have studied an Introductory level Arabic course so that one has a basic understanding of: grammatical states, pronouns, gender agreement, singular/dual/plural, simple noun sentences, and simple verb sentences. In-depth knowledge is not required, and both the beginner and advanced student of Arabic will find great benefit from this course.
All necessary Morphological, Grammatical and Balagha ( Rhetoric) discussions will be discussed when necessary. Questions can be asked to our teachers in classroom forums and text chat.

- We will examine the similarities and differences in the way the stories has been told in each of the Surahs. We will explain why the Quran is not repetitive and in fact mentions the aspects of the story relevant to the context of the story and the Surah as a whole.
- We will be examining sentence structures, omitting and mentioning, perfect word choice and other rhetorical aspects used in the these stories.
Lesson 5 - Linguistic aspects in the stories in Surat Al Kahf [24:37 minutes]
- We will look at word choice in this Surah related to paradise as well as the 2 words used for city/township.
- We will examine some linguistic aspects related to the Story of Khidr and Musa (AS)
Lessons 6-10 - Comparison of the story of Musa (AS) in Surat Al Naml (27:6-14) and Surat Al Qasas (28:29-33) [1 hour 46 minutes]
